It must be the video games!

Does anyone recall back in the mid-80’s how there were several cases of teen suicide, claimed to be an epidemic at the time, that were blamed on heavy metal music? Perhaps I’m too old. How about in the mid-90’s when rap music was blamed for violence against police (actually don’t they still say that?) that was claimed as epidemic then? I could site other situations, but I don’t need to I think.
The point is that I wonder why every time some idiot does something, of late anyway, it gets blamed on video games. Cursing, poor driving skills, pre-marital sex, you name it and it’s out there, being blamed on one game or another. It’s gone so far that the AMA is planning to name an addiction disorder based on playing games.
And then I read about this
“It was like one of those video games the kids play where they steal a car and shoot at police…
”
It seems two 14 year olds decided to have a joyride (something people have done since the 50’s as I recall) and during this ride started to shoot at the police. There are at least a dozen movies, books, songs, and live cable news events that have shown this kind of behavior but the officer quoted above can seem to believe their could be anything else that might influence these kids.
Great. And once the AMA moves forward with their definition of videoholics the kids will have a lame legal defense.
When did people stop recognizing idiocy when they see it?
