Well here is something new. It’s not a new game, hardware or other item for video games. It’s a new level of respect and an attempt to bring a bit of ESPN to the gaming world. Yes, ESPN. Via News Corp gamers are getting the opportunity to get the same recognition team sport get, and in a way more than some get in the United States.
How, you might ask? Is it possible to put your gaming skill to bear and gain the fame that Mr. David Beckham gets? Well maybe not David Beckham or soccer in general, but possibly as much as any player in the WNBA or professional volleyball. That’s a huge step up from the usual maligned state video gamers are held in today.
News Corp has created the Championship Gaming Series (CGS), a league of teams and individuals competing to become world champions at racing, FPS (first person shooters), action and other forms of video games. When I say world I don’t mean like the World Series where only American teams are involved. I mean nations from South East Asia, Europe, South America and more.
Not only will the CGS exist and have team and individual events, this will be televised. Yes now you can stand proud and congratulate mom on international tv just like football players do. Are you getting excited. Want to compete? Want to prove that America rules in the games we created and shared with the world? Check it out. And remember, we all will be watching.
