I think any gamer will agree that the middle ages was a time (in Europe) that was ensconced in battles, much to the benefit of multitudes of software publishers. Whether it’s the crusades or just empire building, there are plenty of battles to be had. But one of the less covered battles was the Hundred Years’ War. Koei has noticed this vacancy and is now filling it with a game by the name of Bladestorm: The Hundred Years’ War.
Not yet released, we find ourselves as mercenaries of little standing. Our goal is to take contracts for either England or France (it doesn’t matter which – you are a mercenary after all) win the battles and gain fame and fortune. As you do so, you become more effective at leading, your troops become more skilled and special items are awarded to various parts of your growing army.
Not the most original medieval strategy game, but not the regular hack and slash either. Tactics are always important especially since (at least) the PS3 version is not the easiest to locate and command troops with. There will be an Xbox 360 version as well. Both versions will have historical heroes you can battle with, though it’s unclear if you can change historical outcomes at this time.
There is more to this preview and you can see it here at 1up.com.
