Oh the travails of summer

Have you ever had a day where you are just bored? I mean even though you might have a couple of dozen video games for your PS2, and probably at least as many for your computer including a couple of MMO’s. You just have no desire to jump into something you’ve already beaten, and you are tired of building up new characters to level 50 on World of Warcraft. Even the new Lord of the Rings Online is just not doing it (stay away from Vanguard. The thrill dies quickly).
What might you do? Go out and get a new game system? Considering the prices of the Xbox 360 and the PS3 (even with the new $100 lower price of $500) I think not. It just seems too high, especially since there hasn’t been any game that really seems fresh and new.
Of course in the past month alone over 150,000 Playstation 3’s sold at this new price, which is a 3 month high. Still the price is too high for me to justify getting one, even with the positive comments a couple of friends have made about it. Similarly the price of the Xbox 360 is way too much given the ‘Ring of Death’ that goes with the system. Yet 170,000 of them sold in the past month as well.
So I am stuck with the thought of buying the Wii, at it’s cheaper $250 price tag. Yet I’m not that big on the games it provides. I’m sure it’s perfect for a casual gamer, but I tend to like my games a bit more complex and challenging.
It’s a pickle indeed. What is a grown man to do? Perhaps the new fall game lineup will help. Perhaps as we exit the summer, a real dead time for new game releases there will be something that will pop up of interest. But until then, I’ll stick with my MMO’s and PS2. Until the price drops I don’t see a reason to change.
But what about you? Have you seen anything of interest out there? Have you been motivated to buy any of the new game systems? What are you playing now, and looking forward too?
I’m sure I’m not the only one out there wondering which is the next step.
