In six parts:
Alex Kidd was Sega’s first mascot character prior to Sonic the Hedgehog. One difference is that Alex debuted as an arcade game in 1986 (just like Wonder Boy!), whereas Sonic debuted as more of a console game in 1992, but was still quite successful for a home game, thus leading to his ascension of the throne. This game, which Sega produced for their Master System when they were first beginning in console development in the mid-80s, is a home version of their then first success in cultivating an animated mascot character for their company.
(And now, isn’t it a shame that Sega got bested by Sony in past years, leading to their departure from the home hardware market? Sigh.)
