First, it’s interesting to note that back in 1979, Sega produced two games called “Head On” which were a form of eat-the-dots racing that preceded Pac-Man by about a year. The title sounds almost like that of these games, doesn’t it? But it was different, with racing cars. This here is probably the first really successful motocycle racing game produced, designed by Yu Suzuki in his debut at Sega in 1985. And here’s a recording of the first game:
It was one of the most colorfully produced games Sega made then, but also pretty difficult, and to complete all 5 rounds requires a lot of practice, because just one crash can cost you the victory.
Next, here’s a recording of Super Hang-On:
This time, you can choose from a few different spots on the map of where to race, and just like Out Run, produced in 1987, you can choose different tunes of music. There were also two special versions of these games, Hang-On Jr. and Limited Edition Hang-On, which were produced shortly afterwards, that slight modifications that are also well worth trying out. This was some of the best of its kind.
