In three parts:
In this game, the most notable lightgun shooter Atari has ever made when they dealt with coin-ops (in association with a special developer called Mesa Logic), you’re part of an elite task force unit called S.T.A.A.R that’s sent to infiltrate the famous research facility in Nevada to investigate how it got overrun with deadly aliens and even turned some of the human workers into aliens as well. It’s got some of the best 3-D effects for a game using mostly digitized graphics, and plenty of secret areas you can try to access for more points.
If you’re curious to know, whenever you accidentally shoot the S.T.A.A.R members, they intentionally don’t get killed or disappear off the screen, because this came out at a time when videogames were undergoing scrutiny for violent effects during the mid-90s, and Atari wanted to maintain their good reputation as best as possible. I think that actually makes the game better, and it’s certainly quite exciting to play.
