Dragon’s Lair delivery

Here are three videos of the first official game that employed laserdisc technology, and even animation provided by Don Bluth (yes, he who made cartoons like The Secret of NIMH and An American Tail):

You play as a good-hearted knight on a quest to rescue a princess from the clutches of a ruthless dragon overlord in his vast and frightening fortress, which is filled to the brim with all manner of monsters, ogres, magical demons and other vermin. Aiding you is a trusty magic sword of your own. I wish I could say I enjoyed this more than I did, but some of those “death scenes” are so obnoxious, it ruined my enjoyment, even if they weren’t gory by any stretch. The laserdisc market was hardly off to a good start with this item. An interesting detail here is how some parts are repeated in “mirrored” format. My favorite part here has to be where the hero matches wits with a shadow-demon who forces him to face the hazards of a hopscotch laser-fire pattern. And then there’s naturally the ending, where the hero has finally rescued the damsel in distress from the evil dragon.

There was also a sequel to this made, and if I find a recording, yes, I suppose I will provide a posting for that too.

After years of supporting the game, the fan site is speaking up. I wonder if this is one of the con’s that companies have to deal with when fan sites are made.
