Kingdom of Kroz kassettes

These were some of the first games made by 3D Realms at the time they first began business as Apogee. Here’s a short filming of the first installment:

It was a very basic quest game where you play an archaeologist in search of the legendary Amulet of Kroz. Back then, there were plenty of computer games like this one where the characters were represented by all sorts of text-based symbols. Nowadays, it’s more actual graphics.
There were about seven episodes/games in this series, which can be found if you know where to look for freeware, and if I ever can, I’ll add more videos of the whole series here.
Incidentally, this game’s name served as a special command years later in Duke Nukem 3D for the invincibility mode, when you type in “dnkroz” during gameplay. It’s amazing how some companies make nice little nods to their original productions, I must say.
